Yoga at Work? What Actually Happens and Why Teams Love Workplace Yoga
Updated: 18 hours ago

Workplace yoga might sound like one of those wellness ideas that looks great on paper, but leaves you wondering: Will our team actually want to do it?
Picture a typical workday. Back-to-back meetings. Shoulders slowly creeping towards ears. Too much screen time, not enough movement and, right on cue, the 3pm slump arrives.
Now - imagine pressing pause before the slump has a chance to hit. Moving, breathing, stretching and resetting on a lunch break, without even leaving the workplace.
That’s where workplace yoga comes in.
Do you need to be flexible to do workplace yoga?
Absolutely not. In fact, some of the people who get the most out of our sessions are the ones who tell us, “I’m not flexible enough for yoga!”
You don’t need to touch your toes. That’s not the goal. We’re much more interested in helping you feel better in your body.
You don’t need a yoga studio. A meeting room, breakout space or suitable area in the office can work beautifully.
You don’t need to change clothes. Depending on the session, participants can often join in wearing their normal work clothes.
And it’s not just stretching. Yoga can combine movement, breathing, mindfulness and relaxation to give your team a genuine reset during the workday.
Our corporate yoga classes are designed for real workplaces and real people, with different bodies, abilities, fitness levels and amounts of yoga experience. Complete beginners are very welcome.
What actually happens in a workplace yoga session?
This is the bit people are often curious about.
With Yogamigos, we make it easy. Our instructor comes to your team at your workplace. Depending on your space and your team, that might mean a mat-based workplace yoga class, chair yoga or a combination of both.
There’s no need to transform the boardroom into a wellness retreat before we arrive!
Participants bring their own mat, and the instructor guides everyone through the session. We start by helping people switch gears from work mode to wellbeing mode, usually with some simple breathing and gentle movement.
From there, the class builds through accessible yoga movements and stretches designed to help release the tension that can accumulate after hours at a desk. Think tight shoulders, stiff backs, tired hips and screen-weary bodies.
Everything can be adapted. If your team prefers to stay in work attire, we can offer chair-based sessions that are super accessible, and the team will still feel amazing afterwards. If your team is working remotely or across multiple locations, online sessions are another easy way to get everyone involved.
Our mobile workplace yoga approach means we bring the wellbeing experience to you, rather than asking employees to travel somewhere else before, during or after an already busy workday.
Sessions can be tailored to suit your workplace and schedule, whether you’re looking for a quick reset during the day, a regular weekly class or a wellbeing activity as part of a team event.
The best part?
People tend to walk out looking noticeably different from when they walked in. Shoulders are lower. Faces are softer. There’s usually a bit more energy in the room and, quite often, someone saying, “We should do this every week.”

What do teams say afterwards?
One of the things we love about workplace yoga is seeing people surprise themselves.
Someone might arrive convinced yoga isn’t really “their thing”, then leave saying how much they enjoyed having permission to stop, move and reset.
"Thank you all so much for being involved in our recent wellbeing initiative at ALDI. It was such a success, and we want to expand it next year. Please pass on our thanks to your wonderful teachers!"
Sally | ALDI, Melbourne
And it’s not only about how people feel during the class. A workplace yoga session creates a shared experience that doesn’t involve another meeting, another screen or another deadline.
For People and Culture teams, HR managers, and office managers, that can make it a wonderfully simple way to bring people together while supporting wellbeing.
"The session was fantastic, Paula created such a welcoming and supportive environment, and her guidance made it easy for everyone to follow along. Those who attended really enjoyed it and left feeling relaxed and refreshed. The feedback from those who joined was very positive.
If we do a session like this in future, we will definitely book through Yogamigos! 5 out of 5 stars!"

How do you make workplace yoga stick?
You don’t need a huge wellbeing program to get started. A few simple choices can make your workplace wellness classes much easier for employees to embrace.
Keep it consistent. The same day and time each week makes a session easier to remember and easier to build into the working week.
Keep it manageable. You don’t need to block out half the day. A well-timed session can give people space to reset without making their diaries harder to manage.
Mix it up. Yoga, seated movement, breathing and mindfulness can all play a role. Variety helps you meet different needs across your team.
Start with a one-off session. If you’re not sure how your team will respond, try one class as part of a wellbeing day, team event or workplace initiative. Let them experience it before committing to an ongoing program.
At Yogamigos, we offer a range of workplace wellbeing programs, so you can choose an approach that fits your people, space and working environment.
